Android has built-in ‘Screen Continuity’ support, so developers won’t have to go through an awful lot of trouble to optimize their apps for foldable displays. Simply put, it’s the feature by which an app could smoothly and seamlessly transform to and fro the different screen sizes.

Google is already encouraging developers to add Screen Continuity, Multi-resume, and Multi-display support to their apps to make the transition to foldable phones smooth.

List of the Best Folding Phones to Buy in 2023

Here’s a list of foldable phones that are already out or will be coming to the market really soon.

1. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5

Samsung launched the next-generation foldable phones last month. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with 12GB RAM and up to 1TB onboard storage. The foldable sports a 7.6-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 6.2-inch HD+ cover display that is also a Dynamic AMOLED panel with 120Hz adaptive refresh rates.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 has a 50MP+12MP+10MP camera setup at the back and a 10MP+4MP setup at the front. It runs Android 13 OS and packs a 4400mAh battery with 25W fast charging. The foldable measures 67.1×154.9×13.4mm and weighs 253 grams. It also comes with an IPX8 rating and will be available for Rs. 1,54,999 from August 18 in India. Galaxy Z Fold 5 can be purchased online as well as offline.

Samsung also unveiled the next-generation Flip phone alongside the Z Fold 5. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X Infinity Flex display and a cover 3.4-inch AMOLED cover display. It packs a 3700mAh battery with 25W charging.

At the back is a 12MP+12MP rear camera setup while at the front is a 10MP camera. It runs Android 13 and is IPX8 rated. Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be available for Rs. 99,999 in India from August 18.

2. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 can be dubbed as the 2022 edition in its foldable fraternity of Samsung. The smartphone comes with a 7.6-inch AMOLED display along with a 6.2-inch AMOLED cover display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The device works on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor that promises high-octane speed and performance. The handset operates on the Samsung One UI 4.1.1 based on the Android 12L operating system. The OS of the smartphone is specially designed for large-screen devices and to optimize the applications in a better way.

In terms of optics, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 comes with a triple rear camera setup including a 50MP primary shooter, 12MP ultra wide-angle shooter, and a 10MP telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom. For video calls, the device has a 4MP snapper and for selfies, it has a 10MP sensor. The device has 12GB RAM along with 256GB internal storage in the base variant. The device is powered by a 4400mAh battery along with 25W charging support. The device gets up to 50% charged in around 35 minutes. The smartphone is available in four different color options including Phantom Black, Gray-green, Burgundy, and Beige.

3. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 made it to the market alongside the Fold 4. It is a more affordable foldable smartphone with a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED display along with a 120Hz refresh rate. The outer display of the smartphone has a 1.9-inches Super AMOLED panel. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage in the base variant. The device is also based on the Android 12 operating system with Samsung One UI 4.1.1 on top.

When it comes to the camera, we get to see a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 12MP primary shooter and a 12MP ultra wide-angle shooter. For the sake of video calls and selfies, the smartphone rocks a 10MP primary sensor. The battery of the device, 3700mAh, was quite disappointing as Samsung could have done better by offering a high-capacity battery. The device also supports 25W fast charging support and 15W wireless charging support. The smartphone ships in four different colors including Bora Purple, Graphite, Pink Gold, and Blue.

4. Oppo Find N2 Flip

Oppo has launched the successor to the Find N Series. The brand launched Find N2 and Find N2 Flip at the Mobile World Congress 2023. The Find N2 Flip resembles Galaxy Z Flip 4 in design and will be the first folding phone from Oppo in 2023 that will have a global launch. It features a clamshell flip folding design and has a vertically oriented display to the front, which can be accessed when folded. It is expected to come in 2 colors- Black and Purple.

In terms of specs, the Find N2 Flip is said to be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage. The vertical display gets 2 primary cameras to its side having a 50MP primary and 8MP ultrawide unit. The external display will be 3.26 inches in size with a 60Hz refresh rate. The inside display will be a 6.8-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. There will be a 32MP selfie lens and the foldable might pack a 4300mAh battery with 44W fast charging. The foldable will also have an IPX4 rating and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.

5. Moto Razr 40 Ultra

Motorola launched its next Razr Series in India last month. The Moto Razr 40 Ultra is the top-end model that is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset with 8GB RAM and 256GB onboard storage. It has a 13MP+12MP camera setup at the back and a 32MP selfie camera at the front. The flip phone packs a 3800mAh battery with 30W fast charging.

The flip phone is 15.1mm thick when folded and 6.99mm when unfolded. It sports a 6.9-inch display when unfolded with a 165Hz refresh rate. There is a 3.6-inch P-OLED cover screen with a 144Hz refresh rate. It is available for Rs. 89,999 via Amazon.

6. Google Pixel Fold

Google Pixel Fold is expected to come to India very soon. It will have a 7.6-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and run Android 13 out of the box. The foldable will be powered by a Tensor G2 chipset with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The Google Pixel Fold will draw juice from a 4821mAh battery with 30W fast charging.

In terms of camera optics, the Pixel Fold will have a 48MP+10.8MP+10.8MP camera setup at the back and a 9.5MP+8MP camera at the front. Google Pixel Fold is expected to cost Rs. 1,46,990 in India.
